Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has pledged his commitment in assisting the Nigeria Army to sustain the relative peace and adequate security witnessed in the State.
Governor Ikpeazu made this known when he received a delegation of the new General Officer Commanding (G.O.C), 82 Division of the Nigeria Army, Enugu, Major General Emmanuel Kabuk at Government House Umuahia.
He however noted that policing Abia State is challenging as the State is sorrounded by many States, from where criminal elements could creep in from time to time to carry out their devilish acts.
The Governor who stated that Abia State is peaceful and has neither recorded any confrontation between oil workers and indigenes of oil producing communities nor any act of sabotage against the economy of Nigeria, maintained that the recent pipe line explosion in Osisioma was a natural occurance coupled with carelessness.
He congratulated Major General Kabuk on his assumption of duty in the Division and expressed confidence that with his support, the State would have adequate security to manage its businesses, especially, the newly approved Free Export Industrial Zone.
Earlier, the new General Officer Commanding, 82 Division Nigeria Army, Major General Emmanuel Kabuk, said he came on a familiarization visit as it is customary
for every newly posted commander to interact with the chief executives of the States within his area of operational responsibility.
He thanked the Governor for his continuous support to the 14 Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Ohafia.
