NEW NFF PRESIDENT: FIVE PROBLEMS AMAJU PINNICK MUST FIX

The newly elected NFF president Amaju Pinnick broke a 38 year-old jinx when he won the election for a second term in the ‘glass house.’

The last NFA chairman that was re-elected for a second term was Sunday Dakaro, which took place about 38 years ago.

Pinnick got 34 out of the 44 votes cast which represent 77% of the votes. His opponents Aminu Maigari, Taiwo Ogunjobi and Chinedu Okoye got eight, two and no votes respectively.

Now that elections are over, there are five big problems facing pinnick and his new executive board.

UNITING THE FOOTBALL FRATERNITY

It will be naïve to conclude that all is now well in Nigerian football. There are still aggrieved persons and those loyal to them, who will explore any loophole to ferment trouble. Pinnick must put ego and personal interests aside to mend fences and bring every stake holder together and carry everyone along.

SUPER EAGLES MUST QUALIFY FOR 2019 AFCON

Amaju Pinnick has done a lot for Nigerian football, yet, no fan has forgotten that during his first term Nigeria did not qualify for two editions of the African Cup of Nations. Therefore, Pinnick and his board must leave no stone unturned to ensure that the Super Eagles qualify for next year’s AFCON.

NIGERIA MUST TAKE ITS RIGHTFUL PLACE IN YOUTH FOOTBALL

Nigeria used to dominate the continent and the world at large in the U-17 and U-20 championships. Sadly in recent times, the Golden Eaglets and the Flying Eagles are struggling to qualify not to talk of winning the championship. The new board should fix this problem as quickly as possible.

FEMALE FOOTBALL

Female football has brought a lot of joy to Nigerian football fans, yet little attention is given to female football development and the female league.

Pinnick and his team must give serious attention to female football as Nigerians are tired of dominating Africa. They want to see the Super Falcons defeat France, USA, China and other super powers.

NIGERIA MUST BE AT THE 2022 WORLD CUP

If Nigeria did not play at the 2022 World Cup many fans will rate pinnick’s second term as failure no matter his accomplishments.
