Restructuring will end quest for separatism-Makarfi

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Senator Ahmed Makarfi has said that restructuring the Nation’s institutional framework would the various agitation for self determination by different ethnic nationalities in the country.

He therefore warned the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to stop playing politics with the issue of restructuring in order to save Nigeria from imminent catastrophe.

Sen Makarfi stated this at the PDP state Secretariat in  Umuahia, Abia state during a visit to canvass and solicit support for his presidential candidature said that the only remedy to save Nigeria from impending collapse remains restructuring the country’s institutional framework and strengthening its agencies.

The immediate past Peoples Democratic Party National Committee Chairman warned that unless urgent are take,  the country might might not survive the threat to her unity.

Sen Makarfi described restructuring as not his personal agenda but a collective policy of the PDP which he strongly believes would help fix Nigeria’s problems.

The former governor of Kaduna state recalled that the Technical Committee he headed while in the Senate worked on the report of the 2014 National Confab which recommended restructuring as the way to
move Nigeria forward.

He regretted that APC which promised Nigerians restructuring in its manifesto during it campaign for power in 2015 had denied ever making such a promise.

” If we don’t restructure Nigeria in such a way that the South or the West or even the North will not feel belonging, we will have problems”

Sen Makarfi promised that if given the opportunity to fly the PDP presidential flag,  he would reposition  Nigeria to an enviable height in the comity of nations insisting that he has the competence, experience and capacity to lead PDP to victory come 2019 general elections, having  saved  party from sinking” during its protracted
crisis period.

The former Kaduna State governor maintained that he did not join the presidential race because be was able to lead the party successfully out of its crisis but because he was convinced he had all it takes to defeat the ruling APC and take Nigeria to greater heights.

In his response, the State  PDP Chairman, Chief Johnson Onuigbo, described Sen Makarfi as a man who can be trusted, a detribalized Nigerian and  a man who cannot be easily bought over adding that he
did not betray the party during their crisis era.

Chief Onuigbo also said that the antecedents of Makarfi would speak for him as a man who tolerates each other irrespective of  religion and ethnicity and urged him to  trust in God and  wished him well in his quest to govern the country.
