Senator Godswill Akpabio has prided that the anti graft agency, Economic Financial Crime Commission EFCC has not been able to indict him because he was not found culpable of any financial misconduct.
He said this Wednesday at the Ikot Ekpene township stadium during a reception rally in his honour to the All Progressives Congress.
Against the speculations that he joined the APC to hide from the long arms of EFCC, Akpabio said,”Those petitions against me to EFCC have been sorted out. As i speakcourt because nothing was found against me.
“I resigned as the senate minority leader and member of the peoples democratic party due to some members inability to consult widely and follow due process in making Saraki the Party’s national leader.”
He further explained that he joined the APC to assist in bringing peace and prosperity in Nigeria adding that his nationalistic spirit would not allow him to conspire against the Federal government.
“I joined the APC because I am a nationalist. I joined to salvage Nigeria especially in this time of insurgency in the North and even in
some parts of Akwa Ibom. I joined to conspire in bringing peace and prosperity to Nigeria.
“I joined because I want to bring South South into the mainstream of things and to be an integral part of Nigeria of which it contributes
much to its sustenance, I want to link Akwa Ibom to the centre.” He said.
Akpabio who said he consulted widely with relevant stakeholders in the APC both at the national and state level however asked for forgiveness from APC members he had offended.
In his remarks, the Acting President Prof. Yemi Osinbanjo who was represented by Secretary to the
Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha commended Akpabio for his courage in leaving the PDP saying the action would help return Akwa Ibom on the path of progress.
“I want to commend Akpabio for his move and the exemplary leadership he has shown in Akwa Ibom and elsewhere. With this courageous move today we believe that the entire south south would be APC. He urged him to use the APC to change the fortunes of the people of Akwa Ibom condemning the non completion of projects by his successor.
However in a swift reaction, the spokesperson of EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren said Akpabio’s case still ongoing.
His words, ”EFCC does not close cases or give clearance to anybody.”
Two National Assembly members, two state assembly members, two commissioners, a former Secretary to the State
Government and the state deputy chairman of the PDP also defected from the PDP to the APC.
