Kalu Joins Labour Party as Abia Leadership Hails Growing Political Momentum

The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has described the defection of philanthropist and businessman, Emeka Charles Kalu, to the Labour Party as a significant boost to the party’s growing influence in the state.

Speaking at a mega rally and official declaration held at the Bende Local Government Headquarters Stadium, the governor represented by his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu said Kalu’s decision reflects strong confidence in the administration’s reform-driven agenda and people-oriented governance.

He noted that the event represented more than a political declaration, describing it as “a celebration of leadership, vision, and commitment to the progress of the people of Abia.”

The governor commended Kalu’s track record in philanthropy, youth empowerment, and grassroots development, emphasizing that his values align closely with the ideals of the Labour Party.

“His decision to join the party at this critical time is both strategic and commendable. It demonstrates courage, foresight, and a shared commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the people,” Emetu said.

Welcoming Kalu on behalf of the state government, he expressed confidence that the businessman’s experience and influence would further strengthen the administration’s efforts to build a better Abia.

Also speaking, Chairman of the occasion, Chijioke Nwankwo, attributed Kalu’s defection to the developmental strides recorded under Governor Otti, noting that the administration’s achievements continue to attract credible leaders to the party.

He described the Labour Party as “a platform built on a solid foundation,” adding that the governor’s performance has “transformed Abia in ways previously unimaginable.”

In his remarks, the State Chairman of the Labour Party, Emmanuel Otti, expressed excitement over Kalu’s entry, likening it to the birth of “a new son” into the party.

He assured party faithful of continued expansion and consolidation ahead of future political engagements.

In his acceptance speech, Chief Emeka Charles Kalu said he was delighted to join the Labour Party, describing his decision as being in the best interest of Abia State.

He pledged to support the administration of Governor Otti and contribute his quota to the development of the state.
