SEDT Begins Osisioma Campus Operations in April

The School of Environmental Design and Technology (SEDT) at Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic will commence academic activities at its Osisioma Campus in April, ahead of a planned full relocation in November 2026.

This development positions SEDT as the first school within the institution to begin operations at the new campus. The decision was disclosed following a courtesy visit by members of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors to the Rector, Prof. Christopher Okoro Kalu, on Monday.

Speaking during the visit, the Aba Branch Chairman of the institution, Vincent Eze, commended the transformation of the polytechnic, noting that its current outlook represents a significant improvement from previous years.

Eze described the Rector’s leadership as impactful, adding that the institution now commands greater respect within academic and professional circles. He also announced plans by the association to support the school through the provision of practical equipment and professional manpower to enhance students’ training.

According to him, the body will also institute a ₦200,000 cash award for the best graduating student of SEDT at each convocation ceremony, aimed at promoting academic excellence and encouraging healthy competition among students.

Responding, the Rector, Prof. Christopher Okoro Kalu, attributed the institution’s progress to divine grace and the support of the Abia State Government under Governor Alex Otti. He reaffirmed the polytechnic’s commitment to advancing technical and vocational education.

Prof. Okoro Kalu emphasized the importance of practical training in polytechnic education and directed that SEDT students begin lectures at the Osisioma Campus in April. He assured that transportation arrangements would be put in place, alongside partial support for students’ professional dues.
