NAWOJ FCT Honours National President, Partners at IWD Media Training

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has honoured its National President, Aisha Ibrahim, alongside other key stakeholders during a capacity-building training organised to mark the 2026 International Women’s Day (IWD).

The training, organised in collaboration with the German Embassy Abuja, brought together women journalists, media professionals, and development partners to strengthen media capacity and reinforce the role of journalism in promoting gender equality and social justice.

Ibrahim received an Award of Excellence in recognition of her leadership and sustained efforts in amplifying the voices of Nigerian women within the media space.

The award was presented by former NAWOJ National President, Ladi Bala, who commended Ibrahim for her transformative leadership and dedication to advancing women in journalism.

Bala was also honoured with an Award of Appreciation for serving as a resource person at the training, while media professional Lemmy Ughegbe was recognised for his support for women and his contributions as a facilitator.

The German Embassy Abuja equally received an Award of Appreciation for its continued partnership and support for NAWOJ FCT initiatives.

Speaking at the event, NAWOJ FCT Chairperson, Bassey Ita Ikpang, said the training was designed to equip women journalists with the skills and tools needed to effectively report on issues affecting women and vulnerable groups.

She noted that the initiative also aims to strengthen professional capacity, promote ethical journalism, and empower female media practitioners to drive advocacy in key areas such as health, gender equality, social inclusion, and democratic governance—particularly in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.

“The training is part of our broader commitment to building a strong network of women journalists who are not only professionally competent but also socially responsive and impactful in their reporting,” Ikpang said.

She also expressed appreciation to the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, Grace Ike, for her leadership and continued support for NAWOJ activities.
