NDDC Showcases Niger Delta Culture Through Music, Dance, and Heritage

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has celebrated the rich culture of the Niger Delta through a colourful Arts and Culture Expo held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The event brought together cultural groups, stakeholders, and communities from across the region. It featured exciting displays of traditional music, dance, and art, showing the beauty and diversity of the Niger Delta.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, said the expo highlights the strength of Nigeria’s diversity. The programme, themed “Rhythm of the Niger Delta: Music, Dance and the Heartbeat of Our People,” focused on promoting and preserving the culture of the region.

Dr. Ogbuku, who was represented by the Akwa Ibom State Representative on the NDDC Board, Apostle Abasiandikan Nkono, said culture is very important to the identity of the people. According to him, culture remains the soul of the people and should not be lost, even in a modern world driven by technology.

He added that the expo showcased the richness of the Niger Delta through beautiful performances that entertained and educated the audience. He also said the commission remains committed to promoting unity and cultural integration across the region.

“The Niger Delta has once again shown its rich, vibrant, and beautiful heritage,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, the Special Guest of Honour, Ambassador Amaba Ogbuku, stressed the importance of culture in people’s lives. He said culture defines who we are and reminds us of our roots, no matter where we are in the world.

In her remarks, the NDDC Director of Culture and Women Affairs, Mrs. Ahunna Imoni, described the expo as a strong platform for celebrating the uniqueness of the Niger Delta. She said culture helps to bring people together, tell their stories, and connect generations.

“This event is not just about performances, but about unity, pride, and shared identity,” she added.

The event ended on a high note, with participants expressing joy and pride in their cultural heritage.
