Police Warn Against Two Million-Man Political Rally in Akwa Ibom.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has warned that unauthorized political rallies in the state are not allowed.

The Command said the decision was based on credible information about planned two million-man rallies in support of a presidential candidate, organized by a group known as the Village Boys Movement.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo on Tuesday. She explained that information circulating on social media indicated that another parallel rally, organized by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors Group, was also scheduled for Saturday, 28th March 2026, in Uyo.

She stated that while the Command received a written application from the Renewed Hope Ambassadors Group for the proposed rally, the Village Boys Movement rally was only announced on social media without any formal notification to the Police.

She added, “In the interest of peace, public safety, and fairness, the Command clearly states that it has not granted permission for any of these rallies. Organizers and participants are warned that going ahead with these unauthorized gatherings will lead to immediate action by law enforcement agencies.

“Considering the current security situation in the country, it is important that all political activities follow the guidelines and timelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Political campaigns and rallies are only allowed within the official periods approved by INEC.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command will not allow any action that could disturb public peace and security. Any person or group found organizing or taking part in unauthorized rallies will face legal consequences, including arrest and prosecution. The Police will take necessary steps to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of all residents.

“The Command therefore urges the organizers to stop any further planning until proper approval is obtained from the Police. This serves as a final warning. Any attempt to ignore the law will not be tolerated, and strict legal action will be taken.”
