NAWOJ FCT Congratulates Onyilo, Ike on Induction into NIPR

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has congratulated two prominent media professionals, Evelyn Onyilo and Grace Ike, on their induction into the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).

In a statement issued by its Chairperson, Bassey Ita Ikpang, NAWOJ FCT described the recognition as a reflection of the duo’s commitment to professionalism, excellence and ethical communication in the media industry.

The association noted that Onyilo, a veteran broadcaster, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from the University of Maiduguri and has over 22 years of experience as a television journalist with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

A former National President of NAWOJ and currently the Publisher of Phenomenal People Magazine, Onyilo was commended for her leadership, mentorship and continued contributions to the development of women in journalism. NAWOJ also highlighted her commitment to community service through her activities as a Rotarian.

The statement further praised Ike, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, for making history as the first woman to occupy the position in more than four decades.

According to NAWOJ, Ike’s leadership journey, which includes serving as Chairman of the National Assembly Press Corps and Vice Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, demonstrates resilience, competence and dedication to the profession.

The association added that within two years of her tenure, Ike has introduced progressive reforms and innovative initiatives that have improved the welfare and professional capacity of journalists in the FCT.

NAWOJ FCT described their induction into the NIPR as not only a personal achievement but also a proud moment for the media community, particularly women journalists.

“The recognition reinforces the critical role of credible communication, strategic public relations and ethical storytelling in shaping society,” the statement said.

The association expressed confidence that both Onyilo and Ike would bring their experience and integrity to further advance the ideals and standards of the public relations profession in Nigeria.
