Abia Government Opens Alaukwu Primary Health Centre to Improve Healthcare Access

The Abia State Government has strengthened healthcare delivery in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area with the operationalization of the Alaukwu Primary Health Centre (PHC).

The event attracted government officials, political leaders, health workers, community stakeholders, and residents who gathered to witness the opening of the health facility. The centre is expected to improve access to quality primary healthcare services for people in the community and nearby areas.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, who represented the state governor, said the government is committed to providing quality and affordable healthcare services for residents across the state.

He explained that the opening of the Alaukwu PHC was part of a wider plan by the government to strengthen primary healthcare services, adding that similar exercises were taking place at five locations across the state at the same time.

According to him, primary healthcare is the foundation of a strong health system, and the government will continue to invest in health infrastructure, manpower, and essential services to improve the wellbeing of citizens.

“Quality healthcare remains the foundation of true prosperity,” he said.

The commissioner also encouraged the community to take ownership of the facility by using the services provided and helping to maintain it. He advised residents, especially pregnant women, to avoid patronizing traditional birth attendants, noting that such practices could pose serious health risks.
