MOUAU To Inaugurate Its 7th Vice Chancellor March 2

The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) is set to inaugurate Professor Ursula Ngozi Akanwa as its 7th Vice Chancellor in a ceremony scheduled for March 1, 2026.

Prof. Akanwa, who previously served as Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Development under the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, would make history as the first female Vice Chancellor of the institution.

The inauguration would climax the university’s transition programme and formally usher in a new five-year tenure expected to focus on academic excellence, research expansion, and institutional development.

Prof. Akanwa who is a Professor of Educational Measurement and Evaluation, is widely respected for her academic depth and administrative experience.

Having played a key role in research and development initiatives within the university’s leadership structure, she would bring the capacity and vision needed to consolidate on existing achievements and chart a progressive course for the institution.

In a statement, the university community described the event as a historic milestone in the continued growth and advancement of MOUAU. The ceremony, it noted, would signal a new phase of strategic leadership and renewed commitment to excellence.

Members of the university community and the general public have been formally invited to attend the inauguration ceremony and witness what has been described as a defining moment in the life of the institution.

During a thank you meeting with media partners of the university recently, the outgoing VC, Prof Iwe, urged the incoming vice chancellor to verify whatever information she hears before taking decisions, to avoid making mistakes.

While expressing optimism that she would represent and pilot the affairs of the institution right, Iwe appreciated the media for supporting his tenure and urged them to relay same support to the new administration.
