Agricultural Transformation in Niger Delta Gains Momentum — NDDC

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in partnership with Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises–Niger Delta (LIFE-ND), is recording significant progress in advancing agricultural transformation across the Niger Delta region.

A recent inspection of agricultural incubation centres in Akwa Ibom, Imo, and Rivers States revealed encouraging outcomes, particularly in empowering rural communities and young agripreneurs.

The inspection team was led by Dr. Winifred Madume, Director of Agriculture and Fisheries at the NDDC, who said the exercise was aimed at assessing programme implementation and identifying areas requiring improvement.

“This oversight function is to ensure that the training remains on track with its mandate,” she stated.

The Commission’s commitment to fulfilling its counterpart funding obligations and driving rural economic transformation, she noted, aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Also speaking, the Special Assistant on Agriculture to the NDDC Managing Director, Mr. Abi Morris, expressed satisfaction with the programme’s progress and the enthusiasm displayed by participating youths.

“This programme is a clear demonstration of development in action,” he said. “It goes beyond training to unlocking livelihoods and reshaping mindsets.” He added that the Commission would continue to support initiatives that equip young people with the skills and resources needed for success.

Beneficiaries of the programme shared testimonies of impact. Miss Nzhu Salome, from Sogho in Rivers State, thanked the NDDC for providing her with the knowledge and financial support to establish a garri marketing enterprise. Ibigineh Doreen, from Imo State, commended the initiative for boosting her fish farming business, while Mr. Ohaka Emmanuel, an incubatee in Akwa Ibom State, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn fish production, processing, and marketing.

The NDDC–LIFE-ND partnership is aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture across the Niger Delta. Dr. Oretan Adebowale, a Director in the Agriculture and Fisheries Department, charged beneficiaries to apply their acquired knowledge to advance sustainable agricultural practices within their communities.
