NDDC Chairman Tips Niger Delta Games as Olympic Talent Hub

The Chairman of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Chiedu Ebie, has expressed optimism that the Niger Delta Games will serve as a veritable platform for discovering and nurturing sporting talents capable of representing Nigeria at major international competitions, including the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, and the All-Africa Games.

 

Ebie made this assertion during a strategic retreat organized by Dunamis-Icon Limited, consultants for the 2nd Niger Delta Games, held in Benin City, Edo State. He emphasized the NDDC’s commitment to making the games a legacy project, with the long-term objective of producing world-class athletes who can compete at the highest levels.

 

The NDDC Chairman commended the leadership of Dunamis-Icon Limited for organizing the retreat, which focused on reviewing strategies and projecting plans for the successful staging of the games. He also praised the Edo State Government for its proactive approach to sports development, expressing confidence that the second edition of the Niger Delta Sports Festival would surpass expectations.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, reaffirmed the state’s readiness to host the second edition of the festival. He applauded the NDDC for sustaining the initiative, describing it as a vital instrument for fostering unity, peace, and socio-economic development across the Niger Delta region.

 

Also speaking, the Managing Consultant of Dunamis-Icon Limited, Sir Itiako Ikpokpo, explained that the retreat was designed to assess the outcomes of the maiden edition, address identified shortcomings, and ensure a more successful event. He disclosed that the 2nd Niger Delta Games are scheduled to hold from February 20 to 27 and will feature athletes from the nine states that make up the Niger Delta region.

 

With preparations in top gear, the stage is set for an exciting showcase of sporting excellence and regional pride.
