The President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, has firmly dissociated himself and his office from a viral social media post allegedly calling on the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, to resign or vacate office on or before February 3, 2027.
In a disclaimer issued by the Media Unit of his office today, Saturday, January 17, 2026, and made available to newsmen, Amb. Sukubo described the claim as false, mischievous, and a deliberate act of propaganda aimed at misleading the public and escalating political tension in Rivers State.
The NYCN President condemned in strong terms a Facebook post credited to Bestman Amadi, whom he described as a political jobber impersonating the authentic Rivers State Chairman of the NYCN, Amb. Ambrose Sopuruchi Okpor. According to the statement, the post falsely suggested that Amb. Sukubo was in support of, or in collaboration with, a call for the unconstitutional removal of the Rivers State Governor.
“Such a claim is not only laughable but dangerous,” the statement read, adding that Amb. Sukubo has never authorized anyone to issue or associate his name with any statement calling for the resignation of Governor Fubara.
The NYCN leadership noted that although it would ordinarily have ignored the post, it was compelled to respond in order to protect unsuspecting members of the public and political stakeholders from being misled, as well as to prevent further escalation of the ongoing political tension in the state.
Describing the publication as concocted lies, unsavoury innuendo, and cheap propaganda, the statement accused its authors of attempting to sow division within the NYCN in Rivers State, create disaffection between the NYCN President and the Governor, and exploit the situation for personal and pecuniary gain.
Amb. Sukubo warned Bestman Amadi and his collaborators to desist immediately from such actions or risk facing consequences in accordance with the law.
He further urged Governor Fubara, political actors, and the good people of Rivers State to disregard and discountenance the social media post, stressing that it represents the imagination of individuals seeking relevance amid the state’s political challenges.
Reaffirming the position of the council, the statement emphasized that the National Youth Council of Nigeria remains committed to peace, unity, and stability in Rivers State and across Nigeria.
Amb. Sukubo also commended Governor Fubara for his youth-friendly policies, inclusive approach to governance, and significant investment in youth development and empowerment, noting that the NYCN President would never be part of any attempt to destabilize an administration widely regarded as supportive of young people.
The statement concluded by reiterating the NYCN’s resolve to promote constructive engagement and democratic stability, while rejecting any unconstitutional or provocative actions capable of worsening the political climate in Rivers State.
