Gov Otti Welcomes CIoD Partnership Proposal, Underscores Centrality Of Leadership In Governance

 

Governor Alex Otti has assured the Chartered Institute of Directors (CIoD) Nigeria of his administration’s readiness to collaborate with the organisation in strengthening leadership capacity, governance and ethics across both the public and private sectors.

 

Governor Otti made the remark when he received the President of the Institute, Otunba Adetunji Oyebanji and members of the Governing Council during a courtesy visit at Isialangwa South LGA.

 

The Governor while stressing the central role of leadership, emphasised that governance, ethics and professionalism form the foundation of any thriving institution.

 

He acknowledged the importance of leadership succession and capacity development and commended the Institute for its strategic position in shaping leadership nationally.

“I can assure you that there are a lot of ways of governance, ethics and professionalism. It’s an area that is so critical in any organisation, be it the public or private sector.

 

I was just telling someone that everything succeeds and fails on the alter of leadership.

 

“A long time ago, I had written an article that I titled, The Fish Gets Rotten from the Head.

 

“When you see an organisation struggling, go and look at the leadership. It’s the same thing when you see an organisation doing well, it’s also leadership”, Governor Otti stated.

The Governor assured the delegation that his administration would thoroughly review their proposal, particularly its aspects on capacity building.

He directed the Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff to study the details and advise him on areas of possible collaboration with the Institute including those beyond what they presented.

“In terms of capacity building, I have taken note of some of the things you said and I would have my team look at it and find where we can work together as partners.

 

“So I want to assure you that we will take a serious look at the proposal”, he assured.

 

Governor Otti commended the Institute’s leadership and congratulated its President on his emergence as President of the Institute.

Earlier, the President of the Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria, Otunba Adetunji Oyebanji, emphasized the Institute’s dedication to promoting ethical leadership, institutional integrity and world-class corporate governance through training, certifications and knowledge-sharing.

 

Otunba Oyebanji expressed the Institution’s readiness to partner with Abia State to deepen governance excellence and support sustainable development noting that such collaboration would shape a future that generations to come would celebrate.

The CIoD President introduced his leadership vision themed Implementation, Collaboration and Engagement (ICE) and proposed a four-pillar partnership framework which includes Membership enrollment of the State Executive Council and Senior Officers into the CIoD, Institutional membership of MDAs under the IOD Centre for Corporate Governance.

 

Oyebanji also proposed the establishment of an annual CIoD Governance and Leadership Roundtable to shape policy and institutional excellence within the State and commended

 

 

He applauded the Governor’s leadership style, pointing out that “Abia State is today a testament to what becomes achievable when vision meets courage and when governance meets integrity“.
