The Abia State Government says it has heightened security across the State ahead of the Yuletide, following increased security concerns in parts of the country.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Commander MacDonald Uba (Rtd), gave the assurance on Thursday, while briefing Journalists after the monthly Security Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.
The meeting, which had in attendance the heads of all Security Agencies operating in the State, reviewed ongoing operations and adopted fresh measures to reinforce public safety ahead of the Yuletide.
“We just arose from the normal monthly security briefing. As you know, we are approaching the Yuletide season, so it is expedient for His Excellency the Governor to invite all the Government Security Agencies working with him and that is what we’ve done.
“His Excellency (Gov Otti) has briefed us, It is a normal monthly security briefing and we’ve done it as we always do every month”, Uba explained.
Commander Uba assured residents that existing security structures had been reinforced adding that Security Agencies were on high alert across the State.
He added that Abians should expect increased security presence in strategic locations, noting that the State Government is responding to National Security trends.
“The normal security is in place. There will be heightened Security. You know the level of insecurity in the nation as a whole so we are not taking anything for granted.
“The normal security patrols, the normal duties will be carried out, so that is the position.
“We are pledging that the Government Security Agencies will ensure that we have a hitch-free Yuletide season this period”, Commander Uba assured.
He urged residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with Security Agencies to ensure seamless operations throughout the festive period.
