The Chief Medical Director of General Hospital, Ukanafun, Dr. Dan Ekerette Sunday, has praised the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, for upgrading the hospital and approving the installation of an MRI machine and dialysis units.
He said the upgraded hospital will also help students of Sure Foundation College of Nursing Sciences, which is located in the area, by giving them better learning and training opportunities.
Speaking during the commissioning of the hospital at the weekend, the CMD explained that the hospital is well-positioned to support the new College of Nursing Sciences.
He said, “I understand that students from the College of Nursing will come here for training, and I want you to know that this hospital will be a great training centre for the people of Ukanafun and beyond.”
Earlier, Governor Eno addressed some pioneer students of Sure Foundation College of Nursing Sciences who came to welcome him. He said he was happy they chose a noble profession and thanked God for giving them the opportunity to gain practical experience.
He added, “We will be monitoring your progress, and the Commissioner for Health will also be monitoring. Those of you who do well will be employed in our health institutions.”
The students thanked the Governor for giving them a fully completed and well-equipped hospital that will help them gain important clinical skills and become better nurses.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the College, Mr. Ndiana-Abasi Udom, said the hospital first started by former Governor Godswill Akpabio shows good continuity in governance and reflects the government’s commitment to improved healthcare under the ARISE Agenda.
He said, “As an institution committed to excellent nursing education, we appreciate every effort that expands access to quality medical care and improves training opportunities for students and professionals. We congratulate the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State on this achievement and look forward to the positive impact this facility will bring to Ukanafun and beyond.”
