Rivers Flood Committee Delivers Relief Materials to Gokana, Oyigbo LGAs

The Rivers State Flood Prevention and Management Committee has distributed relief materials to flood-impacted communities in Gokana and Oyigbo Local Government Areas, as part of its continued efforts to mitigate the effects of recent flooding across the state.

The exercise, held on Wednesday at the Central Medical Stores in Port Harcourt, brought together representatives of the two councils and members of the committee.

Speaking at the event, the Committee Chair and Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, represented by the Vice Chairman and Head of Service, Dr. (Mrs.) Iyingi Brown, said the intervention was aimed at cushioning the hardship faced by vulnerable households. She stressed the need for proper documentation, accountability and equitable distribution, urging council officials to ensure the materials get to the intended beneficiaries.

Prof. Odu further charged the local government teams to verify and confirm the completeness of items before dispatching them to affected communities, while ensuring transparency throughout the process.

The relief distribution forms part of a broader state initiative to provide emergency assistance and strengthen preventive measures aimed at reducing the impact of future floods across Rivers State.
