Super Falcons and Brighton goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been crowned CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for the third consecutive time, following her outstanding performances that propelled Nigeria to victory at the last AWCON. The Super Falcons were also named Women’s Team of the Year, capping a remarkable night for Nigerian women’s football.
In the men’s category, Achraf Hakimi made history by winning the CAF Player of the Year, becoming the first defender in 52 years to claim the award. The 27-year-old PSG star, who narrowly missed out in the last two editions to Nigerian duo Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, also becomes the first Moroccan to win the title since Mustapha Hadji in 1998.
Hakimi’s stellar performances helped PSG secure their first-ever UEFA Champions League title and reach the FIFA Club World Cup final. He also played a pivotal role in Morocco’s qualification for next year’s World Cup.
Morocco’s dominance continued as Othmane Maamma won Young Player of the Year, while Doha El Madani claimed the Women’s Young Player of the Year award.
The Coach of the Year accolade went to Bubista, who led Cape Verde to their first-ever World Cup qualification. Meanwhile, Pyramids FC were named Club of the Year.
In the goalkeeping categories, Yassine Bounou secured the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year Award, while Ghizlane Chebbak was honoured as the Women’s Player of the Year, sealing a night largely dominated by Moroccan football.
