Abia Government Reaffirms Commitment to Education Reforms as Deputy Governor Meets LGA Secretaries

The Abia State Government has restated its determination to strengthen the education sector, with Deputy Governor Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu affirming that education remains one of the top priorities of the present administration.

Engr. Emetu made the declaration in Umuahia during a courtesy visit by Education Secretaries from the 17 local government areas of the state.

The Deputy Governor noted that the administration of Governor Alex Otti is committed to implementing policies that will improve teaching and learning outcomes across Abia.

He encouraged the visiting Education Secretaries to remain dedicated to their duties and work closely with school principals to uplift standards in the sector. He also urged them to collaborate in sensitizing eligible citizens to participate actively in the electoral process.

Earlier in his remarks, the Dean of Education Secretaries, Hon. Kalu Chijioke Azuma, applauded the government for its renewed attention to the education sector.

He reiterated their readiness to partner with the state in advancing educational development but highlighted key challenges, including the need for improved emoluments, provision of operational vehicles, and ICT materials to aid their work.

In a vote of thanks, Lady Nwogu Nkeiri, Education Secretary for Isiala Ngwa South LGA, expressed appreciation to the Deputy Governor for the warm reception. She praised the Otti-led administration for the visible strides being made in transforming the state.

The Abia State Government has so far recruited over 5,300 new teachers and implemented staff promotions through the Abia FOSTER Education Programme, signalling its ongoing efforts to strengthen human resources and enhance the quality of education across the state.
