Former Abia Newspapers Staff Condole Ambassador Oguama Over Mother’s Death

Former staff of the Abia Newspapers and Publishing Corporation (ANPC), who served between 1992 and 2003, have commiserated with their colleague, Ambassador Chris Ugochukwu Oguama, on the passing of his mother, late Madam Beatrice Uchumkpa Oguama.

 

Speaking during her interment at her husband’s compound in Etitinabu Autonomous Community, Isiama Afara, Umuahia North LGA, the Vice Chairman of the group, Comrade (Sir) Uzomba Ekwuribe, paid glowing tributes to the deceased. He described her as a virtuous woman who instilled in her children the values of humility, dedication and commitment — traits reflected in Ambassador Oguama’s service at the Corporation.

He encouraged the family to take solace in her fulfilled life and the positive testimonies shared by all who encountered her, urging them to continue upholding the virtues she imparted.

 

Responding on behalf of the family, Ambassador Oguama thanked his former colleagues for standing with them in their period of grief. He commended the group for sustaining the “Ambassador spirit,” unity of purpose and camaraderie that defined the 1992–2003 ANPC staff set.

At the funeral service conducted by the Assemblies of God Church, the District Superintendent, Rev. Henry Emelike, reminded attendees of the inevitability of judgment and stressed the need to live righteously, sowing good deeds and upholding God’s grace.

In his tribute, Ambassador Oguama recalled his mother’s sacrifices, describing her as a woman of faith, a home builder and a moral guide. Her granddaughter, Favour Balogun, also praised her as a woman of substance and a devoted Christian whose influence shaped the family.

 

Late Mrs. Beatrice Uchumkpa Oguama, who died at the age of 103, is survived by her children, grandchildren and other relatives.

 

The association, through retired Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Common Services, Deacon Uzoma Isiakpu, later presented a condolence purse to the family. Several former ANPC staff members were in attendance at the burial ceremony.
