In response to the desperate appeal made by inmates of the Uzuakoli Leprosy Settlement in Lohum Umuimenyi, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist, Dr. Chima Desmond Anyaso, has brought renewed hope and relief to the community through a far-reaching humanitarian outreach.
Moved by compassion and a deep sense of social responsibility, Dr. Anyaso, through his foundation the Chima Desmond Anyaso Foundation donated a variety of essential supplies including bags of rice, cartons of noodles, tubers of yam, and cash gifts. In addition, solar-powered street lights were handed over to improve nighttime visibility and security within the settlement.
The visit, which took place on Sunday, sparked emotional scenes as residents expressed gratitude through songs, prayers, and heartfelt testimonies, celebrating the timely intervention of the man popularly known as Ofuji.
“True leadership is not measured by political or business success, but by the impact we make in the lives of the less privileged,” he said. “These are our brothers and sisters who deserve care, dignity, and attention. My mission is to help build a society where no one is left behind.”
Dr. Anyaso assured the residents of continued support and promised to incorporate them in future empowerment and development programs.
During the outreach, he was also taken on a tour of the settlement where he saw firsthand the dire state of infrastructure, including sections of residential buildings that had collapsed. Without hesitation, he pledged immediate intervention, directing that reconstruction work begin without delay.
The Project Director of the settlement, Very Rev. Nnaemeka Ajike, lauded the gesture, describing it as both “timely and life-changing.” He noted that the food supplies and solar installations would significantly improve living conditions, while calling on government and other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate Dr. Anyaso’s generosity.
Dr. Anyaso’s visit adds to his growing legacy of community service, which spans youth empowerment programs, educational scholarships, and rural development initiatives across Abia State and beyond.
