The Abia State Government, in collaboration with LearnFactory Nigeria, has launched TechRise 2.0, a digital skills training initiative aimed at equipping 850 young people across the state with globally relevant ICT expertise.

The programme, unveiled at Hotel De La Paix in Aba today September 30, 2025 will train 50 participants from each of Abia’s 17 local government areas. The free 12-week scholarship covers areas such as fullstack web development (JavaScript and Python), Artificial intelligence fundamentals, Data Engineering, Mobile App development, Product management and UI/UX design, Cyber security, Machine learning, 3D animation, Game development, and Digital Arts.

Speaking at the event, LearnFactory CEO, Mr. Chibueze Ikedi Ukaegbu, underscored the transformative potential of the training but urged participants to balance technical capacity with character: “The skills you will acquire over these twelve weeks are extraordinary. You will learn languages reshaping the world — Python, JavaScript, data, algorithms. But be clear: skills without character are dangerous. Capacity without integrity is destructive,” he said.

The programme builds on the success of the first TechRise cohort, during which Governor Alex Chioma Otti provided automatic employment to 19 top-performing graduates and distributed laptops to over 500 others. Officials say the second phase aims to deepen the state’s digital economy by producing job creators rather than just job seekers.

Participants expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity.
Sixteen-year-old KingDavid Chijindu Ehiemere, from Obingwa, said: “The training has been super insightful. I am learning a lot about emerging tech trends, and the hands-on sessions are really helping me build my skills. I look forward to applying what I learn to real-world projects.”
