Abia Assembly Resumes Plenary, Confirms Two Commissioners

The Abia State House of Assembly on Tuesday, September 18, 2025, resumed plenary after its annual recess which commenced on July 29.

Welcoming lawmakers back to the chambers, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, charged members to rededicate themselves to legislative duties that would promote the growth and prosperity of Abia State.

A communication from the Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, requesting the screening and confirmation of two commissioner nominees was read on the floor. After due consideration at an Executive Session, the House confirmed Mr. Chiemela Charles Uzoije and Mrs. Dr. Salome Nkemakolam Obiukwu as commissioners in the State Executive Council.

During the session, two bills were also presented: the Abia State Real Estate Regulatory Bill, 2025, sponsored by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie (Umuahia East), and the Abia State Waterways Authority Bill, 2025, sponsored by Hon. Lewis Chinemerem Obianyi. Both bills were stepped down for further consideration at a later legislative date.

The Speaker further announced the appointment of Mrs. Virginia Akasiobi as the new Deputy Clerk of the Assembly.

The House thereafter adjourned plenary to reconvene on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
