Team Abia continue to show resilience and determination at the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, as they push to win laurels and bring glory to the state.
So far, the team has amassed a total of 34 medals: 12 gold, 12 silver, and 10 bronze.
Weightlifting has contributed three gold medals, while Para-Table Tennis has produced one gold, two silver, and two bronze medals. A gold and silver medal came from scrabble, while Team Abia also struck gold in the girls’ handball and boys’ football events.
In table tennis, the team secured two silver medals. Athletics delivered four medals in total — two silver and two bronze.
In darts, Team Abia won one gold and one bronze medal, while Para-Powerlifting produced the same haul. The state also earned a silver medal and two bronze medals in taekwondo. In wrestling, the team added one bronze medal.
Among the latest medalists is Blessing Chukwunwengozi, who won silver in the -40kg class, while her teammate Victoria secured silver in the -32kg category.
With these achievements, Team Abia have already surpassed their performance from last year’s edition, where they finished 10th with 31 medals. Officials and athletes remain optimistic about adding more medals before the competition concludes.
