The Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on young people across the state to embrace social media as a powerful tool for innovation, economic empowerment, and state branding. He made this call at the 3rd Edition of the Delta State Social Media Summit, held recently at the Maryam Babangida Leisure Park, Asaba, Delta State.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Prince Johnson Erijo, Governor Oborevwori applauded the organisers of the summit for their commitment to using digital platforms to drive creativity, job creation, and sustainable growth in the state.
Themed “Brand Delta, Grow Delta,” the summit brought together content creators, entrepreneurs, media professionals, and youth leaders to explore how social media can be harnessed for economic and social transformation.
Governor Oborevwori emphasized that social media has evolved beyond a personal networking tool and now plays a key role in fostering economic growth, political participation, and cultural promotion.
“The theme of this summit is in line with our aspiration to not only tell our unique story but to leverage that narrative to create opportunities and foster prosperity.
“Social media offers us a platform to project the positive image of Delta, showcasing our investment opportunities, cultural heritage, and human capital to a global audience”, he said.

The governor further stressed that digital platforms provide avenues for young people to become job creators through content creation, entrepreneurship, and influence building.
“Beyond branding, digital platforms could empower youths to become content creators, entrepreneurs, and influencers, thereby contributing to job creation and economic diversification”, he added.
He assured participants that the state government, alongside the House of Assembly, is committed to creating policies and infrastructure that support digital literacy, technological access, and innovation.
Also speaking at the event, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, emphasized the role of social media in shaping a digitally savvy, economically vibrant, and socially inclusive Delta State.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the convener of the summit and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr. Ossai Ovie Success, noted that the initiative was designed to equip young people with skills in creativity, entrepreneurship, and digital innovation.
He shared his personal journey, citing social media as the platform that launched his career in media and governance.
Mr. Ossai also revealed that the Delta State Government has empowered over 250,000 youths across various programs and initiatives, assuring participants that the summit would continue to open new opportunities for emerging digital entrepreneurs.
The summit featured panel discussions, expert lectures, and goodwill messages from a range of distinguished speakers, including renowned musician Harrysong, Dr. Charles Apoki, Dr. Nkem Imarue of Freshstart Interiors and Designs, Pastor Julius Ekweozor, Teacher Chike, Mr. Emmanuel Osazuwa, and Blessing CEO.
