Again, Rivers Women Pray, Demand End to Emergency Rule

Women across Rivers State have again raised their voices in prayer, urging the Federal Government to lift the emergency rule imposed on the state since March.

Under the banner of Rivers Women Unite for SIM, the women converged on the Ecumenical Centre, Port Harcourt, on Thursday, August 28, 2025, for their monthly prayer meeting themed “Divine Mercy and Peace.”

Clad in symbolic attire, the women knelt, sang, and prayed passionately for divine intervention in restoring democratic governance to the state. Their prayers centered on the reinstatement of the governor and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, whose mandates have been suspended under the emergency administration.

Speaking after the session, the women lamented that ordinary families have borne the brunt of the six-month-old emergency rule, which they described as a season of “pain, uncertainty, and silence.” They, however, expressed optimism that peace and normalcy would soon return.

The group also commended recent efforts at reconciliation among political leaders in the state, describing it as a hopeful sign that Rivers can heal from its divisions. Beyond the state, they extended prayers to Nigeria at large, calling for divine strength for families struggling with the current economic and social challenges.

In a statement signed by the media officer of the group, Comrade Glory Sunday, the women reaffirmed their faith that the “hand of God will bring mercy and peace upon Rivers State” and that the voices of women would not be silenced in the push for justice and restoration.
