22 Unaccredited Colleges of Education Sealed Off by FG

The Federal Government has made a significant move to clean up the education sector by shutting down 22 unauthorized Colleges of Education operating in Nigeria. According to a recent report by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), these institutions were found to be operating illegally.during NCCE’s report highlights the Commission’s efforts to ensure that only accredited institutions are allowed to operate in the country.

The National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) has successfully identified and shut down 22 illegal Colleges of Education operating across Nigeria. This move is part of a nationwide crackdown on unapproved institutions offering education programs without government accreditation. The NCCE also conducted a personnel audit and financial monitoring in all 21 federal colleges of education to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

According to President Bola Tinubu, the proliferation of “certificate millers” is undermining the credibility of Nigeria’s education system. Speaking at the 14th convocation ceremony of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in Abuja, he emphasized the need for a robust education system. “At this juncture, it has become imperative to reiterate that this administration remains committed to strengthening the integration of all agencies involved in the administration of education to enhance efficiency and quality,” Tinubu stated.

Tinubu, also highlighted the Federal Government’s efforts to ensure the credibility of educational certificates. “The National Youth Service Corps, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, the National Universities Commission, the National Board for Technical Education, and the National Commission for Colleges of Education are working in alignment to improve the quality of education and ensure that cases of forgery and unrecognized institutions both within and outside the country have no place in our education ecosystem,” he said.
