Abia Warriors of Umuahia kicked off their campaign in this season’s Nigeria Premier Football League with a well-deserved 1-0 victory over Kano Pillars while Enyimba International secured a goalless draw against another Kano side Barau FC.
Playing at the Umuahia Township Stadium, Abia Warriors faced a very big test against a Kano Pillars side that parade former Super Eagles skipper, Ahmed Musa and Nigerian League veteran, Rabiu Ali, but after 90 minutes of soccer hostility, Paul Samson’s first half goal was all that Warriors needed to grab all three points.
In Kano, the Sani Abacha Stadium was on fire when newcomers Barau FC took on Enyimba International of Aba. The keenly contested encounter ended in a goalless draw despite the People’s Elephant ending the match with only 10 men after Mujeeb Odufeso was red carded in the 87th minute.
In other matches, El Kanemi Warriors defeated Bendel Insurance 2-0 while Warri Wolves defeated Katsina United by a lone goal.
Kwara United and Ikorudu City settled their encounter goalless the same score with which Rangers International and Kun Khalifa ended their encounter at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
Shooting Star misfired as they lost at home 0-1 to Bayelsa United while Wikki Tourists disunited Plateau United by a lone goal.
Ten men Rivers United held Remo Stars to a 1-1 draw.
