FG Takes Awareness Campaign on Policies and Achievements to Abia State
The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, has taken its nationwide sensitization campaign on the mid-term achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to the people of Abia State.
The awareness rally, which held on Friday, August 22, was led by the Head of the Federal Information Centre, Umuahia, Lady Gloria Abiakam. The event began at the Abia State Government House by 10:00 a.m., with the distribution of flyers and informational materials outlining the Federal Government’s sectoral accomplishments over the past two years.
Lady Abiakam, addressing the public during the rally, highlighted the administration’s interventions aimed at mitigating the effects of fuel subsidy removal. She also enumerated various Federal Government programmes and how citizens can access them, including student loan schemes, support for small businesses, and grants to vulnerable households.
Staff of the Information Centre actively participated in the outreach, engaging directly with residents in various parts of Umuahia, including streets, marketplaces, and commercial areas. Each staff member took time to explain the purpose of the rally and the benefits available under the current administration’s initiatives.
According to Abiakam, the campaign is part of a broader effort to bridge the information gap between the government and the people, and to create awareness on initiatives targeted at improving citizens’ welfare. She emphasized that President Tinubu’s administration has implemented a wide range of socio-economic and educational policies designed to support different segments of the population, including women, youth, traders, students, and farmers.
“We have come to inform the people of Abia about the efforts of the Federal Government to improve lives. These include interest-free loans for over 300,000 tertiary students, grants for micro, small, and medium enterprises, and targeted support for the poorest and most vulnerable households,” she said.
The rally attracted interest from a wide cross-section of the public, many of whom asked questions and expressed eagerness to learn more about the available programmes. While several residents expressed satisfaction with the information provided, others used the opportunity to voice concerns over the prevailing economic challenges, urging both federal and state authorities to do more in addressing the high cost of living.
Lady Abiakam noted that the campaign mirrors a similar initiative conducted the previous year, which focused on the government’s key priority areas. “This year, we are back to share with Nigerians the progress that has been made under President Tinubu’s administration in its first two years,” she said.
She reiterated that the Federal Government remains committed to achieving peace and security, food sufficiency, energy access, and infrastructure development, and that the nationwide sensitization campaign will continue through the Ministry’s information centres across the 36 states and the FCT.
