The Abia State Government has announced the introduction of a Weekly Work Plan and Self-Performance Review as part of ongoing public service reforms aimed at enhancing productivity, accountability, and transparency in the state’s Civil and Public service.
According to the Head of Service, Mr. Benson Ojeikere, the policy—effective from August 11, 2025—applies to Civil and Public Servants on Salary Grade Levels 07 and above. Under the new system, officers are required to prepare and submit a Weekly Work Plan detailing key tasks, responsibilities, timelines, and expected outcomes.
Mr. Ojeikere explained that the work plans must align with the strategic goals of the respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and be submitted to the Permanent Secretary or Head of the establishment no later than 10:00 a.m. every Monday.
In addition, officers must complete a Self-Performance Review at the end of each week, to be submitted on or before 3:00 p.m. every Friday. Both the Work Plan and Performance Review must be signed, verified, and endorsed by the Unit Head, Head of Department, and the Permanent Secretary or Chief Executive Officer, as applicable.
The Head of Service further stated that any staff-related issue or request submitted to the office of the Head of service must be accompanied by the officer’s eight most recent Weekly Work Plans and Self-Performance Reviews
He disclosed that the Office of the Head of Service will carry out periodic audits and compliance checks, warning that failure to comply will attract disciplinary action in line with the Abia State Public Service Rules.
