Ohanaeze Youths Council Pledges to Retire “Expired Politicians” in 2027 Elections

The apex Igbo youth socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC), has declared its intention to lead a political revolution in 2027 by ensuring that old, ineffective politicians of Igbo origin are voted out and replaced by a new generation of competent leaders.

This declaration was made by the National Publicity Secretary of the Council, Comrade Authority Michael Ukpabi, during a courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, at the Government House in Umuahia.

Ukpabi emphasized that many of the current political actors have failed to adequately represent the interests of Ndigbo and must be retired from active politics. According to him, with youths making up over 60% of the population and a strong political structure spread across polling units, wards, LGAs, and constituencies, the OYC is positioned to drive this change.

“We are fully mobilized and have mapped out strategies to ensure that no expired or inactive politician continues to dominate Igbo political space,” Ukpabi declared.

Ukpabi, who also serves as the Senior Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor, praised Chief Emetu’s leadership style and pledged the Council’s unwavering support for Governor Alex Otti’s administration, including mobilizing youth support for his re-election in 2027.

He proudly noted that Abia is the first state to hold a convention that produced new OYC executives, adding that the organization is now fully present in all 17 local government areas, 8 federal constituencies, 24 state constituencies, and 184 political wards in the state.

In his response, Deputy Governor Emetu lauded the OYC’s vision and urged the youth to rise to the challenge of building a just and progressive society. He stressed the need to shun corruption and work collectively to secure the future of Abia and the Igbo nation.

He acknowledged the vital role of youth in shaping societal transformation and commended the OYC’s readiness to collaborate with the state government.
