2024 CHAN: Tanzania Shock Burkina Faso

Co-host Tanzania started their African Nations Championship in the best possible way with a 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso at the Benjamin Nkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salam on Saturday night.

Abdul Sopu opened scoring for the home side from the penalty spot before defender Mohamed Hussein sealed the three points with a powerful header.

Tanzania have now won a CHAN opening match for the first time having lost their two previous attempts.

This victory has placed them at the summit of group B pending when Madagascar, Mauritania and Central African Republic will play their respective opening matches.

Burkina Faso have failed to win a CHAN opening match in their fourth attempt.
