Dr. Chukwu Commends Governor Otti’s Visionary Leadership in Promoting Inclusive Sports

The 5th edition of the Abia State National Para-Badminton Open Championship concluded in grand style at the International Conference Center, Umuahia, celebrating sporting excellence and inclusivity.

At the closing ceremony, Dr. Oluebube Chukwu, Senior Special Assistant to the Abia State Governor on Due Process, commended Governor Alex Chioma Otti for his visionary leadership and unwavering support for inclusive sports development in the state.


“This tournament is not just a sporting event; it is a bold statement of the Governor’s commitment to building a society where everyone, regardless of physical ability, is given the platform to thrive”, Dr. Chukwu stated.

He praised the Governor’s strategic investment in sports infrastructure and policy direction that has made Abia a hub for para-sports. According to him, the successful hosting of the 5th National Para-Badminton Open proves that Abia is ready to welcome the international community as it prepares to host the dual  Para-Badminton Championships in September 2025.
“With the conducive environment, top-class facilities, and a government that prioritizes inclusivity, we are confident that Abia will deliver a world-class event”, he added.
Dr. Chukwu also emphasized that beyond sports, the Governor’s reforms across sectors including health, education, and social welfare have uplifted vulnerable groups and restored public confidence in governance.

Representing the Governor, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu , reiterated the administration’s resolve to empower youths and para-athletes through sports, describing it as a vital tool for unity, development, and social inclusion.
The ceremony featured a thrilling star match between top para-badminton athletes, with government officials such as Sir Uzor Nwachukwu, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Mrs. Ifeoma Thomas, Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation and Vulnerable Groups, in attendance alongside national and state representatives of the Para-Badminton Association.

Abia’s successful hosting of this championship once again signals a new era of inclusive and transformative sports development under Governor Otti’s leadership.
