CLUB WORLD CUP: PSG Crush Atletico Madrid

UEFA Champions, Paris Saint Germain started their Club World Cup campaign with an emphatic 4-0 demolition of Atletico Madrid in their group B opening encounter.

The French side took the lead when Fabian Ruiz fired a low shot from the edge of the penalty area into the bottom corner.

Vitinha scored just before the break to give PSG a firm control into the half time.

After the break, Atletico thought they had halved the defeat when Julian Alvares scored but the goal was ruled out by referee Istvan Kovacs for a foul by Koke on Desire Doue in the build-up.

In the 78th minute things progressed from bad to worse for Diego Simeone and his Atletico side as they were reduced to 10 men after Clement Lenglet was shown a second yellow card.

Substitute Senny Mayulu made it three with three minutes to full time before Lee Kang-in put the icing on the cake with a stoppage time penalty.

Both sides were playing their first ever match in the competition at the iconic Rose Bowl Stadium which hosted the 1994 World Cup final in which Brazil defeated Italy on penalties with Roberto Baggio missing his spot kick.

PSG will next confront Botafogo on Friday few hours after Atletico would have attempted to bounce back to winning ways against Seattle Sounders.
