Abia holds monthly environmental clean-up exercise

 

The  Abia State monthly general sanitation exercise will hold this weekend, February 22, 2025, between the hours of 7am and 10am.

A release signed by the Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Environment Mr.Philemon Asonye Ogbonna stipulated that movement of people and vehicles during the period would be restricted except those on essential duties, who would be required to present on demand, valid identification or any authentic authorization for such exemption.

Mayors of various local government councils, traditional rulers, community and religious leaders, youth and women organizations in the State are required to monitor and sensitise their people on the importance of the exercise and to participate actively.

Also, all markets, motor parks, private and public transport companies as well as business premises are to remain closed on Friday February 21, 2025 between the hours of 7am and 9am to carry out their own clean-up exercise.

The Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps,the Nigeria Security, and Civil Defence Corps are to assemble at their usual places of take off for deployment.

The release further directed that people are to stay at home to clean up their environment, and work with their nose masks.

The Commissioner further warned that defaulters would be arrested and prosecuted in line with Abia state extant law.
