Donko Care Foundation has restated its commitment towards promoting unity among various communities in Aba through sports.
The Chairmen of the Foundation, Mr Roseson Obasi (Donko), stated this at Etche Road field, Aba, at the kick-off of the Foundation’s Inter-Villages football competition for various communities in Aba.
Mr Donko in his address said the essence of the competition was not about the prize money but bringing the various communities together by engendering on them the spirit of unity and harmonious relationships thereby eliminate unnecessary inter community rivalries and unhealthy competitions.
He further stated that the competition would equally project the unique diversity of Aba as home of entrepreneurship by inculcating the spirit of peaceful coexistence and developing talents who would become youth ambassadors through sports.
Mr Donko added that if the objectives were achieved, Aba would become peaceful, and the potential of youths will be harness for greatness while also insisting that much would be actualise if priority attention would be given to sporting activities.
Also speaking at the Occasion, was the special Guest of Honour and Member representing Ohafia North State Constituency, Rt Hon Mandela Obasi who was represented by his Legislative Assistant Mr Dimgba Ejieke commended the foundation for the initiative and called for more support and investment in the sporting sector as a veritable sector that can make many youths self-employed, uplift families and reduce poverty.
The very entertaining opening match was played between Igbere Village And Item. The both teams showed passion and talents as Igbere defeated Item village by a goal
The Competition scheduled to take place in two venues; Ogbor hill Primary and Etche Road Primary has twelve participating villages which includes;Abiriba , Alayi, Edda, Ekwulobia. Item, Nkanu, Ngwa, Ohafia, Ozuitem and Ugwueke
The side attractions at half time was musical performances from the Famous Aba born musician, Exnel Nwa Aba and other upcoming Aba based Artists who added colours to the event with their great performances.
