Newcastle United reached their second Carabao Cup final in three years with a 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the second leg of their semi-final encounter.
Recall that the first leg had ended with the same margin in favour of Newcastle United so they progressed on a 4-0 aggregate.
Newcastle started the match with intent and Swedish striker, Alexander Isak found the net, but the goal was cancelled for off-site.
Arsenal missed a glorious chance of taking the lead when skipper Martin Odegaard’s glancing header hit the post.
In the 19th minute, Newcastle took the lead when Isak’s shot hit the post before Jacob Murphy turned home the rebound.
After the break, Newcastle United extinguished any Arsenal’s hope of turning the game around with Fabian Schar taking the ball from Declan Rice after Arsenal goalkeeper, David Raya’s pass. Anthony Gordon grabbed the opportunity with both hands and punished the Gunners with the second goal.
Newcastle will now face the winner between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspurs in the final. Both sides will play their second leg semi-final match tonight at Anfield with Spurs leading by a lone goal.
Newcastle lost the final two years ago to Manchester United and will be hoping to win their first silverware since they won the FA Cup in 1955.
