Oborevwori charges Political Appointees on Whistleblowing Policy for Improved Governance

The Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged political appointees to lead the charge in implementing his administration’s whistleblowing policy by reporting poorly executed projects within their areas for prompt action.

Governor Oborevwori delivered the directive on Wednesday during the swearing-in of Senator Ighoyota Amori as his Chief Adviser at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.

He emphasized that video evidence and detailed reports on substandard projects would help the government blacklist negligent contractors, end project abandonment, and ensure adherence to contractual terms.

“Last week, during an interactive session with the top-level public/civil servants, I announced my intention to open a hotline for residents to report cases of substandard jobs by contractors to my office. This initiative will ensure the government receives full value for money spent on projects,” he said.

Oborevwori urged political appointees to monitor local projects actively and advised the government to ensure effective execution. He stressed that teamwork was essential for achieving the state’s goal of becoming an enviable example among other states in the federation.

Reflecting on the achievements of his administration, he noted, “It is gratifying to note that the world has noticed the progress we’ve made in the past 19 months,” and emphasized the need for continued fiscal discipline, infrastructure renewal, youth development, and the stimulation of small and medium enterprise growth.

The Governor also assured that the administration would remain committed to keeping expenditures within revenue limits, ensuring resource allocation that fosters sustainable economic development.

During the inauguration, Governor Oborevwori congratulated Chief Amori, affirming that his appointment aligned with Section 196 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He highlighted Amori’s significant contributions to the PDP and Delta State’s growth.

Oborevwori said, “We will rely on your political wisdom and experience to advance the state through our MORE Agenda.” He reminded all political appointees to embody the core values of the MORE Agenda, including innovation, excellence, social responsibility, and unity.
