JUSUN Suspends Strike Action in Abia State

The state chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has officially announced the suspension of its strike action.

The disclosure was made this morning through a communique released by the officials of the union in a meeting at the High Court Complex, Umuahia.

According to the memorandum of understanding signed by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief Ikechukwu Uwanna; the Commissioner of Finance, Uwaoma Ukandu; and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Labour Matters, Godson Anucha, on behalf of the state government, as well as JUSUN state chairman, Comrade Chinedu Eze; JUSUN state secretary, Comrade Chibueze Nwachukwu; and Comrade Edward Chukwu, on behalf of the union, the state government has agreed to implement the minimum wage in line with the CONJUSS scale for the judiciary with effect from October 2024.

The state shall also review the issue of retired members of JUSUN to ensure the payment of their entitlements, while a negotiation team comprising both the union and the government shall be constituted for the purpose of regularly resolving issues. The communique further explained that the union shall sensitize its members on the ongoing digitization of the justice sector in the state, and that no executive member of the union shall be punished on account of the industrial action.

Speaking on the development, the state vice chairman of JUSUN, Comrade Okpan Anagha Chijioke, and the state publicity secretary, Comrade Edward Ukonu, appreciated the state government for its consideration of the yearnings of the members and appealed to all who were adversely affected by the inconveniences of the industrial action to endure in the spirit of sportsmanship.

It will be recalled that the state chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria resumed its industrial action on the second of this month.
