Ex-Athlete, Joy Okpa-Obuba Donates Volleyball Equipment For Sports Devt In Abia

Abia State Volleyball is set for greater heights this year 2025 following a recent donation from an erstwhile Abia State athlete; Joy Eziaku Okpa-Obuba.

She’s a member of 2006 Abia State volleyball gold winning team at the National Sports Festival, Gateway Games in Ogun State, Nigeria.

A former player of Abia Queens Volleyball Club, ex player of National Institute of Sports player as well as a former National Volleyball team player.

In recognition of her exploits in the volleyball game, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of Louisiana Tech University of the United States of America (USA).

The American-based athlete donated six Mikasa Volleyball with nets, souvenirs for the upcoming volleyball players and modern whistles for referees; which are blown by just pressing a button.

Meanwhile, the Director of Sports, Abia State, Comrade Obioma George, while unveiling the equipment to the newsmen, emphasized the need for individuals to support government in sports development and thanked Dr. Alex Otti for his laudable efforts in developing sports in the state.

This, he said, has motivated well-meaning persons like Joy Eziaku Okpa-Obuba to support the Sports Council through her resources.

Contributing, Abia State Volleyball Coach, and the Secretary of Abia state Volleyball Association, Udeaku Nwangozi, thanked her, for showing commitment towards the development of volleyball in the state and Nigeria.

She revealed that Abia players used to dominate the national volleyball team, assuring Gov. Otti’s administration, Joy Eziaku Okpa-Obuba and other stakeholders that Abia would soon return to her glory era in volleyball.
