Nineteen (19) persons have been rescued while three persons, including a toddler, were reported dead at Bonny waterways in Rivers State.
Following the tragic occurrence of a passenger boat capsizing at the Bonny waterway, which claimed the lives of three people, including a toddler, the incident was reported to have occurred at the Yellow Platform area close to Bonny Island.
The boat was reported to have been hit by a storm and had twenty-two (22) passengers on board who were heading to Bonny from Port Harcourt when this incident occurred.
Our correspondent, who spoke with the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said she confirmed the incident and, at the same time, described it as a tragic event. She also confirmed that nineteen passengers were rescued and the bodies of the three persons who drowned have also been recovered.
The chairman of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Rivers Commercial District, Israel Pepple, also stated that the mishap occurred as a result of a windstorm.
