The only surviving Nigerian club in the continent this season, Enyimba International of Aba have been booted out of the CAF Confederation Cup after losing a must win encounter with Zamalek of Egypt 3-1.
Enyimba were third on the log before the match and desperately needed a win to entertain any hope of going beyond the group stage.
But it took only 29 minutes for the home side to take the lead through Mostafa Shalaby. They doubled their lead three minutes into the second half through Seiffeddine Jaziri, but Ifeanyi Ihemekwele pulled one back in the 57th minute.
But any hope of Enyimba turning the match around was completely extinguished when Jaziri scored again three minutes before full time.
The People’s Elephant have had a difficult campaign this season, which have seen them win only a single match out of six. They finished third with a point above bottom placed Black Bull while two Egyptian clubs, Zamalek and Al Masry progress to the next round.
With their ouster from the continent, the two-time CAF Champions League winners can now concentrate on the Nigerian Premier League where they are placed seventh with two outstanding matches.
