GODA to Dismantle Illegal Shanties Encroaching on Major Roads in Ohafia, Abia North

The Director General of the Greater Ohafia Development Authority (GODA), Eldr. Engr. Obinna Agwu Odum, has pledged to restore order and safety to major roads in Ohafia and Abia North through the dismantling of shanties and obstructions caused by road encroachments.

This decision follows an on-the-spot inspection of Eni Njoku Road in Ebem Ohafia, where Engr. Odum expressed dismay at the alarming rate of road encroachment by shop owners. The inspection revealed that goods and makeshift structures have taken over footpaths and major roads, causing traffic gridlock, accidents, and exposing residents to significant safety hazards.

Speaking during the inspection, Engr. Odum described the situation as an “eyesore” that has defaced the area, creating an unhealthy environment for residents and road users. He further noted the dangers posed by businesses operating directly beneath high-tension cables, highlighting the need for immediate action to prevent potential disasters.

He emphasized that this action aligns with the vision of the state government under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti, which prioritizes development, safety, and environmental cleanliness.

The Greater Ohafia Development Authority urges all affected individuals to cooperate fully with this directive, as it aims to promote safety, restore the aesthetics of the towns, and create a healthier environment for all residents.

The dismantling exercise will commence soon, with the authorities ensuring a smooth and fair implementation process. Residents and business owners are encouraged to align with this vision for the greater good of the communities.
