Economy: Hardship Did Not Stop Residents from Traveling, Says Elder Uche

Elder statesman and social analyst Uche Okoro has stated that the prevailing economic hardship did not mar the Christmas and New Year celebrations, stressing that it did not stop Christians and non-Christians from traveling to their villages. Rather, it boosted their determination, seeing it as an obligation to visit their homes and celebrate with their family members, including extended families, despite the high cost of food items such as rice, chicken, goat, and condiments.

According to him, in a phone interview with our reporter, Port Harcourt streets were empty because there was an exodus of residents who did not consider the economic hardship, high cost of living, or insecurity.

Contributing, James Onyebuchi states that his experience at home was wonderful, as people did not consider the high cost of transportation. He stressed that it was a joyous occasion, occasioned by meeting people one had not seen for years. He also noted that one of the reasons last year’s Christmas and this New Year celebration became exceptional was the security put in place by both Abia and Rivers States.

According to him, there was little or no security challenges from Rivers to Abia, applauding the efforts of the two governors in keeping their promises regarding security in their states.
