Giant Bluefin Tuna Fetches $1.3 Million at Tokyo’s Toyosu Market Auction

A massive bluefin tuna was sold for 207 million yen ($1.3 million) during the New Year auction at Tokyo’s Toyosu Fish Market, marking the second-highest price ever recorded for a tuna. Weighing 276kg, the tuna was bought by Onodera Group, which plans to serve it at its luxury restaurants across Japan.

This sale highlights the continued cultural importance of the annual auction in Japan. Last year, Onodera Group spent 114 million yen for the top tuna at the event.
