The Rivers State Government says it is not backing down on its mission to rid the Trans Amadi industrial layout of illegal structures. For some three weeks, Urban and Physical Planning has been pulling down illegal structures in parts of Port Harcourt.

While speaking to our reporter, the commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning Austin Ben- Chioma says the continuous demolition of illegal structures in Trans Amadi and it’s environs is as a result of Government Urban Renewal Drive.

” We will keep demolishing till we get Trans Amadi back to where it used to be. And we will go all round Port Harcourt, to make sure that all illegal structure is removed. This is part of urban renewal program that the government has set. We are trying to make sure that the old plan of Port Harcourt is maintained”

The commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning Austin Ben – Chioma further warned occupants of already demolished structures against returning to the scene.

Mr Austin Ben also said they are keying in to the Urban renewal project of the governor to make sure that they remove all illegal structures so that people that have defaced Port Harcourt will know that they are serious.

Mr Austin Ben further explained “we will keep on monitoring, so that people will not return to those areas we have demolished. And if people return and start doing anything there, we will arrest and prosecute them”.
