Abia Airport: Omerekpe Calls For Support From Ndi Ngwa

A few days after the State Government flagged off the Abia Airport Project in Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, Abians have expressed various forms of euphoria and called for support to ensure the completion of the project in due time.

In an interview with our reporter during the birthday celebration of Chief Eric Opah’s wife and children in Nsulu, a Governorship Aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 gubernatorial election, Chief Ncheta Elvis Omerekpe (Offor Ndigbo), called on ndi Ngwa to give their unflinching support to the project as the host community.

Chief Ncheta Omerekpe said the project was a good developmental idea and requested that every progressive Ngwa man support it.

He stated that the airport project, when completed, would eliminate the rigorous processes they go through to board flights in other states. He expressed excitement that they would soon be able to take off and land directly in their community.

Recall that the Abia State Government had targeted a 24-month completion timeline for the newly flagged-off Abia Airport Project in Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North LGA, despite a 36-month completion contractual agreement with the contractor.

Governor Otti, who secured a commitment that the airport would be ready for use in 24 months, said he is bent on repositioning the state and giving it a better standing than what he met on the ground.

During the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Abia Airport in Nsulu, the Governor stated that the Federal Government had initially proposed and made provision for an airstrip in the 2024 budget. However, it consented to the Abia State Government’s request to upgrade it to a full-fledged airport. “A project that would be handled by Craneburg Construction Company,” he said.

Omerekpe, however, called on the Ngwa community to back this significant achievement, which would bring substantial development to the region.
