Black Sunday as 6 People Feared Killed on Umuahia-Ohafia Road

It was a black Sunday in Ohafia, Abia State today as six passengers has been feared killed in a ghastly road mishap.

An eye witness who pleaded anonymity with our reporter, had blamed the deplorable road conditions to the unfortunate incident.

He added that a 30-tonnes chippings-laden truck while attempted to avoid bad portions of the road, fell on a 10-seater Sharon vehicle.

Efforts to rescue some of the victims was unsuccessful as all the gravels covered the vehicle carrying passengers.

In his words: “There’s nothing more painful than seeing someone willing to help but unable to do so.

“There were men on the ground, eager and ready to assist, but they lacked the necessary resources at the time–only one shovel. What help could one shovel provide in this situation; trip of granite on top of small vehicle.”

“It wasn’t until six hours after the unfortunate incident that a tractor was brought in to help
By then, it was too late.”

In his words: “The trapped passengers endured this situation for six hours and none came out alive as at the time of filling end as of the report gotten tonight.

Efforts to reach Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs. Chilaka Maureen, via messages proved abortive as messages sent to her got no response as at the time of filing in this report.
